More Advanced Control Options

The Cali76 Compact Bass is an 1176-style studio-grade FET compressor, complete with dedicated controls for parallel compression and side-chain filtering. We’ve taken everything that was great about the original Cali76, added new features optimised for bass and compressed the whole lot down into a pedalboard-friendly package!

A single combined Attack/Release control provides a continuous sweep of useful settings while avoiding combinations that can result in ugly distortion artefacts creeping into the lower registers. Meanwhile, the elegant jewel lamp functions as a three-colour gain reduction meter, providing vital and intuitive feedback to the player.

The Cali76 Compact Bass delivers natural, musical compression exactly where you want it, letting the lower strings breathe for more dynamic transfer and greater perceived girth.

In addition to this pedal’s low-noise circuitry and fast, musical FET response, two special features lift the Cali76 Compact Bass above the competition.

The first is the Dry Blend control, which lets you mix your dry signal back in with your compressed signal for true parallel compression, an indispensable studio recording technique. By combining the compressed and dry signals, you get all of the tone thickening and increased sensitivity of the Cali76’s 1176-style compression, while retaining the natural attack and dynamic expression in your playing. It’s the ultimate in transparent compression –  both fat and punchy at the same time.

This pedal’s second secret weapon is also culled from the studio engineer’s handbook. The Cali76 Compact Bass allows you to rein in the amount of compression applied to the lowest frequencies via a variable-frequency high-pass filter placed in the compressor’s side-chain. With the HPF control dialed in, the compression ratio effectively becomes frequency dependent. The low strings come back to life, adopting an extra weightiness, power and dynamic response, while the higher strings are strictly controlled, preventing slapped and popped notes from leaping out of the mix. This unique bass compressor is like having your own studio engineer sat on your pedalboard!

About Origin Effects

British audio designer Simon Keats started Origin Effects through a genuine desire to produce quality audio tools that he wanted to use. He believes that the tools he creates just won;t be matched by 'off-the-shelf- FX pedals and many modern players would agree. Each pedal is individually handbuilt, expertly calibrated, assembled, tested and finished in the UK.

About Designer Simon Keats

As a guitarist himself, Simon understands the needs of modern players. As a highly experienced audio engineer and designer he has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry before creating Origin Effects to showcase some of his own best, creations. Cali 76 Deluxe - Inverted Black - Limited edition

Limited to only 500 units, the Cali76 Inverted Black adds a classic studio aesthetic to your pedalboard.

The Cali76 Compact Deluxe Inverted Black features all of the same electronic wizardry of its regular-finished Cali76-CD counterpart.

We’ve managed to build all of the functionality from our flagship Cali76 Standard into this little marvel – and we’ve added the much-requested parallel mix control previously only found on our limited editions.

Separate controls for Attack, Release and Ratio let you precisely tailor your tone, from transparent transient control to flat-out limiting and monster sustain. Meanwhile, the elegant jewel lamp functions as an intuitive three-colThe ace in the hole is the Dry Blend control, which lets you mix your dry signal back in with your compressed guitar tone for true parallel compression. An indispensable studio recording technique, parallel compression gives you all of the tone thickening and increased sensitivity of the Cali76, while keeping hold of the natural dynamic expression in your playing.

It’s the ultimate in transparent compression and sustain. By blending your “honest” guitar tone together with more subtle compression, you can also create the kind of three-dimensional, sparkling tone that you’re used to hearing on records – not coming out of your amp!

our gain reduction meter.

The original Cali76 is a big, beautiful compressor pedal that delivers studio-quality 1176-style compression using discrete Class-A circuitry that’s true to the topology and design philosophy of the original.

The Cali76 Compact Deluxe is of the same blood line, sharing the features, performance and pedigree of its larger sibling, but in a smaller package and with parallel compression added on top. A third of the size of the Cali76 Standard, the Compact Deluxe can be housed on even the most congested of pedalboards.

Like all of our Compact Series pedals, the Cali76 Compact Deluxe features high-current, discrete, Class-A circuitry for transparent, low-noise performance. We’ve taken a no-compromise approach to the circuit design using only the best of modern components.

The BASSRIG Super Vintage is, quite simply, a complete vintage bass amp in a pedal. Based on the iconic Ampeg® SVT®, we have used all-analogue circuitry to recreate a complete valve amp-style signal path, along with an all-analogue cabinet simulator, giving you all the warmth, feel and drive of this classic bass rig in one small box.

When the SVT® arrived on the scene in 1969, it rewrote the rulebook for purpose-built bass amplification. Thanks to its enormous power, deep bass, growling overdrive and purposeful control set, this tower of tone has remained the amp of choice for the most discerning bassists on the world’s biggest stages.

With XLR and ¼” outputs, the BASSRIG Super Vintage will fit seamlessly into any signal chain, no matter how simple or complex, and our powerful Amp Out EQ tailors your sound to work with any amp, meaning you never have to compromise on tone.

  1. Complete valve amp-style signal path with dedicated class-A preamp and push-pull output stage, based on the Ampeg® SVT®

  2. Balanced DI output with analogue cabinet simulator based on the Ampeg® SVT® 8×10 cabinet

  3. Reactive overdrive design simulates interaction between amp and speaker for realistic feel and authentic sound

  4. Full range of SVT® tones from clean to overdriven

  5. Powerful tone-shaping Amp Out EQ

  6. Blend control lets you mix your drive sound in parallel with your clean signal

  7. Tour-grade, all-metal construction

  8. High-impedance, buffered bypass with silent switching

  9. Designed and built in England

The BASSRIG Super Vintage uses the same ground-breaking circuitry found in our other Analogue Amp Recreation pedals, replicating the entire signal path of the SVT® and delivering all the tone shaping, drive and character of this historic amp with stunning realism.

In addition to all the familiar controls from the world’s favourite bass amp, we’ve added a BLEND knob, which mixes in some of your clean signal in parallel with the pedal’s emulated amp circuit. This control can add some subtle, low-end clarity or be used to create massive bi-amp-style overdrive tones.

The balanced DI output on the BASSRIG Super Vintage is equipped with a painstakingly engineered, all-analogue simulation of Ampeg®’s famous 8×10 speaker cabinet – an essential part of this amp’s revered sound. Craft the perfect studio bass tone or run direct into the PA at gigs!

The switch on the front panel lets you select whether the cabinet simulator is always active or only on when the pedal is engaged, meaning you can use the BASSRIG to add cabinet simulation to other pedals or keep an unaffected DI signal when the pedal is in bypass.

Bass amps come in so many different varieties and we wanted the BASSRIG Super Vintage to work with all of them. Our proprietary Amp Out EQ filter lets you tailor the output of the pedal so you never have to compromise on tone, keeping your sound consistent from amp to amp, gig to gig.

Positioned after the drive circuit, the LF and HF trimmers adjust the low and high frequencies to give you the sound of a roaring vintage stack from even the tiniest combo, or tame unwanted boominess and brightness when using unfamiliar backline cabs. The HORN CUT switch instantly combats fizziness when using overdriven sounds with a tweeter-equipped cab, letting you keep your hi-fi clean tone and kick in proper, vintage overdrive.

Housed in a hand polished, brushed stainless steel enclosure and furnished with aluminium controls, Neutrik® jack sockets and heavy-duty footswitch, the BASSRIG Super Vintage is equally at home on the road and in the studio.

Power Supply

9V DC 2.1 mm centre-negative

Please note: the BASSRIG is powered by a mains adaptor only (not included). We’ve dispensed with the usual 9V battery option, both to save space and to allow us to adopt a high-current approach, yielding lower noise levels and superior tone.

Origin Effects pedals are designed to deliver impeccable performance using a range of power supplies. We recommend you only use a regulated power supply specifically designed for guitar pedal applications as power supplies which do not have sufficient internal filtering can result in unwanted noise.

We recommend the following power supplies for use with our pedals:

  1. Voodoo Labs Pedal Power series

  2. Cioks supplies

  3. Truetone 1 Spot Pro series

  4. Strymon Zuma

This product should only be operated at 9V. The design employs a voltage doubling circuit to achieve higher internal voltages for improved sonic performance.

Premium-quality, 1960’s-style FET compressor with transformer output stage

The original, large-format Cali76 compressor with high-spec transformer output stage and balanced line out, optimised for guitar, bass and studio use. Strictly limited run.

When Origin launched the Cali76 back in 2012, it was, and still is, like nothing else on the market. With its large, brushed aluminium enclosure, studio-grade circuitry and astonishingly transparent sound, the Cali76 broke the mould in every department.

The Cali76-TX features a custom-wound iron core transformer designed to subtly saturate and add extra harmonic complexity at higher gain levels.

Meanwhile, the Cali76-TX-L  features a high-end Lundahl transformer, offering the ultra-linear performance, transparent low end and flat phase response that many users prefer for use in the studio and on bass guitar.

Both pedals also feature a 12-stage LED gain reduction meter, a balanced line-level/DI output, and a high/low gain switch – useful for pushing the transformer harder.

  1. OUTPUT – overall output level

  2. INPUT/COMP – sets how much signal passes the threshold and is compressed

  3. RATIO – sets the amount of attenuation from anywhere between 4:1 and 20:1

  4. ATTACK – determines the time taken for the compressor to react to the presence of a signal

  5. RELEASE – sets the duration of gain reduction before recovering to no compression

  6. GAIN – pushes the transformer into saturated overdrive

  7. PAD – drops the signal from LINE/DI output by around 28dB

  8. GND – disconnects the ground connection to solve ground-loop-related issues

Customer feedback;

Submitted on the 21st March 2019 by James in the UK who ordered a  Origin Effect Cali 76 Bass compressor

Firstly I’d like to thank Mark for his excellent service and advice, just what you need!

Secondly what a brilliant and musical product the Cali 76 is. It adds no noise to the signal chain but does exactly what I needed. All the notes are evened out, but not to much, and with the dry blend it still allows expression. Brilliant!

Playing with the controls though shows how versatile it is and can make your Bass, even with Tomastik Jazz flats, sound very dirty.

Thanks again.
