The Super P is our interpretation of the Classic P style bass. We deconstructed the original design, kept what worked and improved on everything else. The look and feel lean toward the traditional, but the tone and performance are everything you’d expect from a Dingwall. We downsized the scale 2” from our standard scale range for a faster attack and quicker, punchier decay. The results are great clarity on the B and E-strings with a big and warm quality to the D and G-strings. The Standard features a pick guard and top mounted controls. The Super PZ is made from lightweight swamp ash which gives a punchier more aggressive tone than alder and is finished with an open grain and satin finishes - similar to the ABZ range.

Features include;

  1. Novax Fan-fret system and specially designed strings for huge, ultra clear B-string response and balance across the fretboard

  2. Multi-laminated neck to increase stability and decrease dead spots

  3. Custom Hipshot tuners - lighter weight and greater string angle at the nut

  4. Thickness balanced body for better weight distribution and increased resonance

  5. Dingwall designed bridge - lightweight with increased sustain and note clarity

  6. Dingwall Neodymium powered pickups  - more power, punch, clarity and frequency response

  7. Tone-Fusion (tm) circuit - blends between a traditional tone capo and a passive mid-cut. Sweep from super-deep dub tones to aggressive P tones to modern slap tones - all passively

After years of building basses mostly using the Novax® Fanned-Fret System™, but also some with standard

parallel frets, Dingwall came to the conclusion that the use of this technology makes basses better - period. The

tension and tone from string to string is more even and low note definition is greatly improved. EQing a bass

whose strings are all of a similar tonal character is so much easier than when the low strings have a darker

quality and the higher strings have a brighter quality.

Just like the original the Super P uses a simple master volume and tone control. The custom pickups give you a wide frequency response and the tone of the instrument will warm and soften when engaged.

The P-Retro is a simple but flexible active/passive bass preamp equaliser which offers huge tonal variation to one of the most popular styles of bass of all time, without the need to permanently modify the instrument itself. P-Retro features two stacked knobs each with a pull-switch, class A FET input stage and a high quality relay for pure passive bypass. Power is provided by an internal rechargeable battery.

The normal volume control becomes the Volume/Tone Stack and works in exactly the same way as the P style bass original controls, passing the passive signal directly to the jack. When the volume control is pulled up, the active circuit is switched in, post passive tone control, and adds 2.5dB of gain with a flat response. Additionally, the upper knob allows either a mid boost, or a combined bass/treble boost. The lower knob sets the variable frequency points for either mode.

We take neck construction very seriously due to our extensive experience in guitar repairs coupled with our geographic location and corresponding extreme climate.  In my years in the guitar repair business I constantly had to deal with humidity related problems made worse by the huge temperature and humidity swings of our local climate.  Many of these problems could have been minimised through simple design changes and materials choices.

Touring musicians are constantly amazed at how stable Dingwall instruments are.  Many state that their Dingwall necks are as stable as their graphite necked instruments. We’ve experimented with many different laminations and have found a 5-piece maple construction to be among the best. Years of experience have proven this design to be extremely stable and reliable while minimising dead spots.

Alder is the traditional wood for the P style bass. It can’t be beat for a traditional warm tone.

Swamp Ash is a great sounding body wood with reduced mid presence, but a lot of resonance and punch.
