Submitted on the 23rd May 2016 by Dave P who purchased Vanderkley MN165 cabinets

Hi Mark.

Just wanted let you know how happy I am with the cab. Compared to the B*******d cab I've been using its like night and day.

I've had a 3 hour rehearsal and a 2 hour gig and really couldn't  be happier. The cab fills the mix out like I've always wanted, but never achieved with my previous cabs. It has less real low end but IMO the BB2 had too much, and this was the big issue I had with it. Very uneven output. I really don't rate the BF cabs at all, and really disappointed considering the statements Alex makes about how wonderful they are.

I don't find Marc makes these overrated statements and produces better cabs.

Anyway, thanks again for all the help and service.

Hi Mark. Just a quick note to say thanks for the new rig and sorting out the shipping problem. I used them both last night and they sounded amazing. The difference between them and my old gear was like going from black and white to technicolour. Needless to say I'm delighted.

All the best

Thanks Mark, and thanks for the usual excellent service when I was down a couple of weeks ago. The Combustion is stunning and the Vanderkley’s are the best cabs I’ve ever used. I gigged the new rig and everyone in the band commented on how smooth the bass sounded – job done. Please pass on thanks to Marcus for persuading me to get the second cab, makes all the difference. I drive down from Yorkshire because I wouldn’t shop anywhere else.

Morning Mark,

The Vanderkley 15-6 was amazing at last night's pub gig. I didn't even need to turn up passed 3 on the Spinal Tap scale to have fantastic presence in the mix with the usual mushy guitarists! Far more impressive than the Barefaced kit.

I've ordered an additional 15-6 to supplement it, which is almost certainly overkill, but I understand they're on back order at the moment.

Regards,

Steve

Mrs Potter  - The Lady Plays the Bass – Kent

Date got Feb 2014

Having searched for a new amp and cabs for many months, sitting in many basements annoying salesmen with 'no don’t like it' comments and with the arrival of two new bands making this change somewhat urgent, plus the fact that realising that no hubby was around on practice night, it took me fifteen minutes to drag my combo amp to my car then another 10 to get it into the car, with consequential pulled back muscles insisting that I rapidly review the current arrangement,  I decided to try a new strategy. Rang bass direct spoke to Luke who impressed me with his passion and understanding of my predicament. I suggested Luke ring me back with four options which he promptly did then I spoke to Mark who explained more...I then gave the songs we are covering and in true girly style described the sound I was looking for, warm rich golden full, oh and just to make it more difficult, it has to look pretty in my front room! Oh and my husband won’t always be there to carry it for me.

Out of the suggestions I went for the streamliner 900 and the vanderkley cabs.

delivery was fantastic, early morning and next day.

Set up easy  - did ring to check I had got it right - again great service and no sighs or intonations of 'stupid woman'.

Sound - phenomenal - just what I was looking for. Great for both bands which range from raw blues to funk to slap….

Got our lead guitarist to come over just to check I was not hearing things and he too was impressed.

he was even more chuffed when turning up to practice, I was fully independent and needed no help to lug the stuff out or in - YEAHYY!

I could go into all sorts of technical stuff but I won’t because what I hear I LIKE and that to me was the most important factor in my purchase.

This was a big ask and some would say foolish to buy without a try but the backing of the send it back if you don’t like it from Luke and Mark gave me complete peace of mind especially from any scathing husband comments ( I pointed out that this was a very viable sensible purchase and he was lucky I was not into shoes). All in all very happy bunny.

OOH OOH did I mention it glows blue too which compliments my room colour scheme and is so so soothing.

Thanks guys.

    1. Wow Mark! A-fricking-mazing!

    2. Had my first rehearsal with my rock covers band tonight, and the amp and cab sounded incredible! So tight, punchy and defined, yet uncoloured. It's the sound I've had in my head for a while! It will be good when I can boost lows a bit more though. Nice to have enough headroom that I'm unlikely to push the amp or cab to their limits too.

    3. Not that I'm much of a slapper but the "pops" sound amazing, it's almost studio monitor sort of clarity and accuracy. The amp really benefits from boosting the low mid frequencies a bit in my opinion. I find I have to have the input gain at about 1 o'clock and the volume at about 2 o'clock to get the fullness and punch I want, but I guess it'll tell me if it's overloading.

    4. All in all, I'm a very happy bunny! I've got a rehearsal with Hereford Soul Choir and then my funk and soul covers band tomorrow night; I can't wait!

    5. Thanks again Mark!

Submitted on the 20th October 2013 by Tony who purchased a Genz Benz Streamliner 900 amplifier  and Genz Benz STL Max 9.2 amplifier

Hi Mark,

Just a line to say thanks and how very impressed I am with both amps. (Indecision is an expensive ailment!!)

I have used/tried practically every top brand over the years and the sound, tonal palate and value for money of these GB amps is unsurpassable.

Coupled up with my Vanderkleys 112MNTs both GB amps are absolutely stunning. On balance and after a couple of hours twiddling (as you quite rightly said) I think the flexibility of the Shuttle Max is giving it the edge for my personal taste. The mix of the FET & Tube channels is just phenomenal.

Thinking of adding a 210MNT to the arsenal, when I have off loaded a bit more gear.

Thanks again for your help and forbearance.

Best Regards

Graham Smith

Submitted on the 29th January 2013 by Arindam who purchased a Dingwall ABZ 6 string bass, 2 x Vanderkley MNT112  cabinets and Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2 amplifier

dear mark

With reference to the Dingwall ABZ6 string bass, I took it to a gig at Leicester last week with Roger Pugh and Alan Sansome, playing it through a GB Shuttle 9 and a couple of Vanderkley 112MNTs. I probably don’t need to say much really, the sound engineer was complimentary about the sound right from the sound check and the odd muzo – who recognised the fanned frets- actually came up to the stage to simply emphasise the ‘ph’ in phat!!

all in all, the sound was clear and solid for fingerstyle with a bite that sliced through the mix when slapping. despite this being an absolutely passive bass the slap tones are actually a lot better than some of the active ones I have played, including some I tested at bass direct, which, despite my (previous) love for active electronics, esp. bartolini’s, sounded rather over-produced.

6 strings, a beautifully crafted bass producing incredible tone from just 3 knobs (I was churning out some thundering low A’s as well via the hipshot), an absolutely fantastic lightweight amp and cab combo- why should anyone want a bass with half a dozen controls?? I actually have some corns from playing it regularly at home, and again, to echo others’ comments the fan frets have not been much of a problem at all, and even with my shorter arms and fingers, I found passages along the upper register and the 6th string quite easy!!

this is now my standard rig for my rock/ avant-folk gigs, and will be certainly so on the jazz gigs where I don’t need my fretless!!

to echo the muzo’s comments, a ‘handsome beast’ that sounds as good as it looks!!

warm regards
arindam

Hi Mark! Having used my new Vanderkley cabs in a wide range of professional musical applications (currently doing Mother Goose with the 112MNT - oh yes I am!) just wanted to say how very pleased I am with their performance! Superb depth, clarity and definition; I thoroughly recommend them to anyone wanting a hi-fi tone with no colouration of sound! I was always pretty happy with my old gear but this equipment is in a different league and so will be coming back in the New Year for a 210 as well! To those of you who have yet to visit Mark at the shop, make it there in the New Year, his advice and stock are second to none. Wishing you all a fantastic festive season and very best wishes for 2013! Nick (Peterborough)

I've been using this cab for a little while now so it's time I left some feedback ! This cab is awesome. No matter how noisy my bands get my bass is always clear and punchy. The clarity from this cab is fantastic and the sound is even throughout the frequency range. The build and finish quality is also superb , very important in a cab of this price.
I would like to thank Mark for his great customer service which really was second to none.I was able to spend time comparing cabs to make sure I was getting the right one for me. Well worth the journey and I look forward to doing business with you again in the future !

Hi Mark

Good to see you again on Friday. Just a quick note to say thank you for your (as always) great advice. The Vanderkley cab is a superb bit of kit. Used it on a gig on Saturday and was totally impressed by the volume and clean, undistorted headroom available from such a diminutive cab, handles a low B amazingly! For me, easy portability, great sound and a small stage footprint are essential. This cab ticks all the boxes, it's the perfect gigging bass players cab ( unless you've got roadies!)

Thanks again Mark, it's great to have you there.

Cheers, Mark English

Firstly a big thank you Mark for his advise and absolute refreshing view to promoting modern & cutting edge bass gear.

I had my first full gig with my Genz Benz and Vanderkleys last weekend and the difference was amazing... the clarity, the tone, the responsiveness and the portability. My Alembic always sounded good through the old SWRs but now has a new lease of life with such an improved sound!

Coming to see Mark has opened my eyes and ears to how much things have changed from my goliath days.... a worthwhile and inspiring (if costly) visit.

Hi Mark

I’ve been meaning to write but not got around to it until now…..

Just to say I am delighted with the rig I bought from you in September (Genz Benz Streamliner 900 and 2 x Vanderkley 112MNT). I’ve also just added an Auralex GRAMMA.

The sound is simply stunning. Tons of headroom, unbelievable clarity, warm smooth sub, punchy and dynamic in the mids when required. I’m particularly impressed with the bottom end response especially as the physical size and weight of the cabs is so small. I play a 4 string and use an octaver to get down low for Stevie Wonder stuff in Eb…..the sound is huge and the rig handles it without flinching!

You were right about this combination. The Streamliner is in a class of its own……the valves provide such warmth and tone. And the Vanderkleys are all about hifi. Perfect!

I might look for a new 5 string fretted bass at some point and will definitely come over again when I get to that stage. And I recommend your shop to all my friends for great gear and knowledge.

Regards, Stuart

A quick feedback about my purchase.

Those Vanderkley cabs are amazing. Thank you for the advice and patience when I was trying the set up.

I just practiced with my band and was smiling all night long. I could hear everything I was playing for the first time, with highs and lows totally balanced.

Also, I brought the cabs to the practice room without breaking a sweat :-)

This is going to keep me (and my drummer) happy for a long time!

Hi Mark,

Just letting you know that I received the cover for the vanderkley 210 today. I'm really loving the ea iamp micro and the cab, its the most clarity I've ever had on stage from a bass rig, it's great because I can even here the wrong notes clearly haha!

Thanks again,

Mike Groves.

Submitted on the 30th July 2012 by Tiernan who purchased a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2Max amplifier and Vanderkley MNT210 and MNT112 cabinets

Hi Mark,

I just wanted to drop you a quick email to thank you for your time and excellent advise when I came to the shop on Saturday 21st July. The Shuttle max 9.2 is a fantastically transparent amp and the options for shaping the sound make it a perfect workhorse for me.

The Vanderkley cabs are absolutely superb and deliver a crystal clear punchy sound. They both allow a real precision to each note and make it easy for the sound of the instrument and player to come through. I've only had the chance to really push the volume on 4 occasions so far but the combination of the 112MNT and 210MNT has coped with each situation comfortably with plenty of headroom should I need anything further...in short a real 'ear-opener'! I'm looking forward to getting to know them both over the next few weeks and months.

Anyway, thanks again. It's good to know a shop with your approach to sourcing and selling bass gear exists and is accessible. I'm looking forward to the next visit already.

Kind regards,, Tiernan

Hi Mark

Reference the STM900 amp and MNT112 Vanderkley Cabs purchased earlier this week. Had our fist chance to use the gear last night. As a sixties traditionalist you may of gathered I was a unsure of changing to small, compact lightweight bass gear. What can I say, the sound, tone and power provided with those little gems is amazing, I have never heard such definition and tone from such small insignificant little boxes, for the first time in 45 years I could hear every note I played (not necessary a good thing).

Thanks for the guidance, let me know when the small bags are available for the Amp.

Best Regards

Hi Mark,

Firstly, thank you very much for putting up with me the other week when I came up unexpectedly to purchase a Vanderkley 410 LNT. You'll be pleased to know that the cab is working out really well, to be honest, I've totally fell in love with it and between that one and the 210 MNT I already own, I've now sold on all of my Epifani cabs!

Anyhow, this is just a short note of thanks, and also a quick line to let you know that I was asked this morning to open the Live Stage on Sunday 4th @ The London Bass Guitar Show, with my solo set (at 11:15am). Thought it may be of interest to you and Mark, as I'll be using Vanderkley cabs during my performance, hopefully I can drum up a little business for you at the stand. I'll try and put in a plug.

Very best, Phil Mann

Thanks for your patience and advice Mark. The Steinberger has opened my eyes to the fact that anything is possible.

My mates thought that I was taking the mick when I turned up with the EA micro and Vanderkley 112 until I plugged in and started playing. After many years I can now actually hear what I am playing with total clarity. Once again thanks a million. I will certainly recommend you to anyone whp wants to sort out some gear.
